What is CBD Oil?

CBD Oil (Cannabidoil) is a natural, non-psychoactive concentrate extracted from the Hemp plant.  Hemp is a member of the same family (cannabis) as marijuana but contains higher amounts of CBD and negligible amounts of the psychoactive THC.

The wild version of this plant, sometimes called ‘ditch weed’, grows abundantly throughout the Midwest and Plains States and has been used to make rope, clothing and other natural products.

CBD oil can be taken in extract form with a dropper, by itself or mixed with water or juice.  Typical dosage starts at around one half dropper.  Effects are usually felt within a few minutes to a couple of hours depending on dose and method of dosing and typically last 5 to 7 hours.

According to research outlined by The National Institute of Drug Abuse, CBD extract may be helpful for many health issues and conditions, as well as providing a general improvement in one’s quality of life.  The research, along with much anecdotal evidence suggests that CBD oil may be useful for chronic pain relief, stress, PTSD, anxiety, schizophrenia, depression, inflammation, substance abuse, insomnia, and as an anti-psychotic.

Studies1 have shown potential for cancer treatment, not only for pain relief, nausea, appetite improvement, but decreased tumor growth.  Additional research, outlined in Scientific American, found that CBD oil was effective in controlling epileptic seizures.

A 2006 study showed that CBD reduced the incidence of diabetes in non-obese animals.  A British study showed that CBD promotes cardiovascular health by protecting against vascular damage caused by inflammation or diabetes.
